EMILY GRIFFITH ROCKED THE BLOCK ON OCTOBER 1, 2010
Stay tuned for news of our 2011 block party, coming October 6, 2011 - 10am to 2pm - 12th and Welton Streets!
By 9:00 a.m. on a sunny Friday morning in downtown Denver, visitors found Emily Griffith Technical College surrounded by information booths about the school's 40 technical education programs. Talk about intriguing.
Students really got into the spirit of the event. Language Learning Center students from around the world proudly flew their countries' flags in an enthusiastic Parade of Nations. This inaugural block party event had an airplane, no trains, but plenty of vintage automobiles to enjoy in person. Plus world-class music, street dancing, a fashion show and fantastic edibles created and served by our very own culinary arts students.
Last year's festivities included:
* Live music and entertainment
* Haircuts by Barbering and Cosmetology
* Food tasting from Culinary Arts
* Cake decorating by Culinary Arts
* Fashion show from Fashion Design
* Dressing for success from the Student Success Center
* Blood pressure checks by Health Occupations
* Specialty car show by Automotive
THE FOUNDATION'S COLORFUL "TREE OF FORTUNE" INSPIRED DONATIONS. The Foundation's Block Party booth invited visitors to purchase a $5 or $10 ticket to win an item from our "Tree of Fortune." In exchange for a donation, guests went home with intriguing items such as an iPod Shuffle, a vinegar and oil assorment, a set of miniature teapots, a coupon to one of Denver's great restaurants and many more interesting items, all donated to help the Foundation raise funds.
The "Tree of Fortune" booth raised approximately $500 for the Foundation's charitable programs. Many thanks to all who participated by donating, by assisting with the Block Party and preparing the booth, or by making donations.
